Where have we been?

We visited the award winning Renoufs on a damp, dark, autumnal night which made the candle-lit Cheese & Wine bar in Westbourne even more cosy and inviting.

Renoufs is a welcome change from the usual restaurant concept as it specialises in cheese & charcuterie boards with an accompanying and extensive wine selection. The emphasis is on sociable dining in a relaxed environment.

The idea is to choose an individual, or a sharing board with a choice of cheeses and items from the charcuterie selection. The cheese list is varied with lots of delicious classics, as well as some more unusual options for those who want to be more adventurous! The charcuterie list is just as interesting with some instantly recognisable offerings.

After much deliberation, I opted for the Chevres, Manchego, Salami, Chorizo, Serrano Ham whilst my friend chose the Cheddar, Comte, Blue Viney, Prosciutto, Bresaola Beef and Chorizo. This all arrives at your table beautifully and rustically presented on a cheeseboard with Bread, Crackers, Pickles, Salad and Grapes. You can also savour some extra mini deli items such a Vines Leaves, Hummus, Pork Pies and Sweet Red Peppers. There really is something to suit every taste.

To compliment the Cheese Board, you can opt to pick a Wine Flight, there are a number of options to compliment your chosen cheese. Or you can just have a little of what you fancy by the glass. If wine isn't your thing you have the option of a Gin or Port Flight or even a beer! I had the Platinum Red Flight which included a Chianti Classico, a Barbera from the McClaren Vale Region and a Chilean Graciano, which was fantastic.

The staff at Renoufs really are knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, chatty without being intrusive. The director Trevor can often be found behind the bar or on a Monday hosting the very entertaining quiz night. If you want to learn about the heritage and detail of what you are eating and drinking the team are happy to help and chat so it is perfect for the food and wine enthusiast.

We would recommend sitting at the bar if a couple (much like a traditional Tapas bar) or at a table if you are with a larger group. The venue was packed and full of atmosphere, I will definitely be back.
Renouf's recently announced it is opening its second and highly anticipated restaurant in Wimbourne, visit there webpage here to keep up to date with the news.
